A common fight that is seen on social media, news debates and at times in small group discussion is Has BJP done enough?

A lot of burning issues can be put to rest by applying Activity vs Action concept.

An activity is start of a work and may remain in continuity without creating result. While an Action is result oriented activity.

Let us start with some of the announcements of BJP lead government. Announcement of Smart Cities. How many Smart Cities do we have today? You know the answer. ACTIVITY.

A lot of Hindus have been butchered in Kerala and West Bengal. Some are killed in other states as well. The government at centre has taken some steps, at party level protest march and visit are done in concerned states and district. But has it produced any desired result? No.  ACTIVITY.

370 is removed. A lot of planning was done, followed by detailed debates in both house of Parliament. ACTION.

An announcement was done by NaMo in 2014 that he would ask Hon Supreme Court of India to take up cases of all law makers having criminal background and finish the hearing in time bound manner. No further update after that. ACTIVITY.

Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas is a political slogan. There are citizens who have benefitted and there are sufficient proofs as well. However, citizens who are financially weak are nowhere to go. ACTIVITY.

Law and Order. Despite Hon. Supreme Court order on loudspeakers nothing is done on ground. ACTIVITY.

While Kamlesh Tiwari was arrested promptly – ACTION. A muslim cleric who issued a Fatwa offering a reward of INR 25 lacs to an individual who would shave our PM beard and put black ink (in 2017 West Bengal) – ACTIVITY.

Neither ACTIVITY nor ACTION: There are many occasions when the act doesn’t fit in Activity or Action category.

There are many people who keep insulting Hindu religion, their Gods, Goddess and rituals. Have not seen anyone from ruling party even criticise them (may be I may have missed).

News Traders keep airing biased and fake news. Ordinary citizens are arrested but these news traders keep enjoying their life without fear of law.

Whatever may be the reason for not creating tangible results in some of the burning social issues, BJP lead government is answerable and accountable to all small and big needs of the citizens.

While the job of citizen and ones in government will become easy if they cross check their work on the basis of  Activity vs Action and work accordingly in remaining term, there is another tool I am sharing.

Measurable Demands and Promises. This can be understood by a small exercise “How High is High”?

As citizens we need to see what the current government has done in the last tenure. Where they are lacking now. Make a list of your favourite issues. Do some research and then make a demand. Follow up by filing RTI and writing letters to concerned ministry and cc to PMO. Apply How High is High formula to it. Be practical. Imagine yourself in the shoes of the concerned CM or Minister you will get the answer on how practical is your demand. If need be take help from your friends who understand the issue. Such an exercise will create better results. Just few posts on Social Media may get you instant attention but may not create desired result. Be reasonable in your demand.

The government too needs to think about what they are promising. Everything has a shelf life. Brand value of MODI may remain intact in surveys and in person in events like Howdy Modi but in real life, at ground level the corporator, MLA, MLC, CM, Cabinet ministers are not yet accessible. Digital India is incomplete if law makers are not willing to come on social media and help the citizens in need. A real tribute to Late Smt Sushma Swaraj would be to act in a manner to make life easy for the citizens by keeping the interaction two way and assisting in time of need.

Law makers too need to think How High is High? To what extent they want to become Janta ka Sevak. Commit themselves to it and deliver the bare minimum that is promised. Staying politically correct may help escaping debate on MSM but not the citizens.

Feel free to share your inputs. Let us make our presence on social media result oriented.
